Welcome to Heaton Medical Centre
Heaton Medical Centre is home to an NHS general practice providing a comprehensive range of medical services within friendly, comfortable and modern purpose-built premises. There is a car park, easy access for the less mobile, with all consulting rooms on the ground floor, and facilities for disabled people and families with toddlers and babies. There is a pharmacy at the practice to dispense your prescriptions.
The doctors and staff at Heaton Medical Centre are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare.
As a Training Practice we are responsible for the education of our next generation of doctors and nurses.
We have a number of Qualified Doctors working at the practice, from Foundation Year Doctors to GP Specialists Trainees. All of these doctors are fully qualified to see any general medical condition presented at the practice. The doctors are on placement with us from 4 to 12 months. They offer appointments in the same way as your regular doctor.
We are also involved in training undergraduate medical students for Manchester University who may be present during a consultation. You will always be informed of their presence and have the right to be seen without the trainee should you wish.

New role of an Advanced Practitioner
We have introduced an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to the practice to improve access to medical care. Many of our patients will already know Sister Emma Oliver, she has been with the practice since 2011 as a practice nurse, the previous 9 years as a Sister on Intensive care. Emma is currently training towards her MSc in Advanced Practice which will be completed in August. Emma has undertaken additional education and is qualified to assess and examine patients, make a diagnosis and provide treatment and advice including a prescription if required. She works closely with our GPs and liaises with them about patient care.
She can provide treatment and advice problems for which you may have seen a doctor for in the past including, coughs and colds, fever/flu like illness, sore throat, chest infections, earache, skin infections, vomiting/diarrhoea, sinusitis, acute back pain, joint sprains, eczema, vaginal symptoms, suspected urine infection, abdominal pain, exacerbation of asthma/COPD.
You may be seen by Emma after you have been spoken to by the GP providing the on call telephone triage service, you may also be telephoned by Emma. We hope that you will find this new service will complement and improve the care you already receive, but please be assured that a doctor’s appointment will always be available should you prefer.

“After much thought I have decided to retire from general practice and will leave the partnership at the end of April. I shall miss everyone greatly and regret that due to personal circumstances I have not been able to speak personally to those of you I know well. It has been a great privilege to be part of your lives through time of stress and of joy and I wish you all well for the future”.
Dr Lyn Wardman
